چکیده

Capturing information behaviours and attitudes that occur in natural settings is a challenge. Observational methods are often intrusive or retrospective proxies, which may change behaviour misrepresent attitudes. Technology enables novel approaches to in-situ quantitative data collection but rarely explores qualitative reflections; informing researchers on what happened, not necessarily why. Mobile-Based Experience Sampling for Behaviour Research

The Experience Sampling Method (ESM) introduces in-situ sampling of human behaviour, and provides researchers and behavioural therapists with ecologically valid and timely assessments of a person’s psychological state. This, in turn, opens up new opportunities for understanding behaviour at a scale and granularity that was not possible just a few years ago. The practical applications are many, ...

The Descriptive Experience Sampling method

Descriptive Experience Sampling (DES) is a method for exploring inner experience. DES subjects carry a random beeper in natural environments; when the beep sounds, they capture their inner experience, jot down notes about it, and report it to an investigator in a subsequent expositional interview. DES is a fundamentally idiographic method, describing faithfully the pristine inner experiences of...

Affect Measurement in Experience Sampling Research

Experience-sampling studies are used to study the emotional component of subjective well-being (hedonic balance). This manuscript examines conceptual and methodological issues in the measurement of hedonic balance, and it relates aspects of affective experiences (frequency, intensity, and duration) to affective dispositions (extraversion, neuroticism) and life-satisfaction. Aggregates of experi...

Epistemological Perspectives on Multi-Method Information Systems Research

There is a continuing discussion on methodological pluralism in IS research. Several claims have been made both for and against methodological pluralism. The debate focuses mainly on discussing the relationship between research methods and IS research paradigms, especially positivism and interpretivism. Also, the literature analyzes the epistemological assumptions of research paradigms, but pay...

The essential feature of ESM is that participants’ feelings, thoughts, ...
